I’m Vicky, and I’ve been in this industry for almost twenty years. I’ve worked on all sides of the fence – from writing fiction and non-fiction to editing and proofreading. I’ve even dabbled in publishing. My favourite part of it all, though? Working with authors to help them achieve their goals, their dreams, and watching them make their work shine. I get a buzz from being involved in the process, from seeing a book or a thesis or a blog post go from its raw form and become something brilliant. I take your babies and adopt them as my own, watching them grow from their first tentative steps and develop into a fully published and flourishing adulthood.
I’ve worked with many different types of people over the years, from those writing self-help books to PhD candidates perfecting their dissertations. I’ve helped students with university applications, I’ve worked on blogs and B2B content, and so much more. But what I really champion are those indie authors who are going it alone. I admire people who are passionate about what they create and who are willing to take on an entire industry, from the initial writing right through to marketing. I love working with fiction writers in particular, especially those who demonstrate a creativity that is perhaps restricted in more traditional settings.
I’m a book nerd, through and through. In fact, I’m nerdy about all sorts of related things - words and sentences, stories and storytelling, even the physical creation of books and the process of publication. I love the whole thing - from start to finish. That’s why I founded Positive Points at the beginning of 2020. Back then, I offered the same editing and proofreading services I offered as a freelancer, just in a more formal setting. Now, I’ve expanded into more areas of the industry, including book formatting and book coaching. I realised that what I loved best about my job was working so closely with authors - and what better way to do that than with mentoring? Check out the tabs at the top of the page for more details.
So why should you choose me? Apart from my education, skill, and experience, I genuinely care about your work. I will get as excited as you when we see progress, and if we encounter problems, it’ll keep me up all night just the same. I have my phone in my hand and switched on 24/7, meaning I’m quick to reply whenever you have a question or a query. I don’t have set office hours either, meaning if you’re on a tight deadline or you prefer working ‘unsociable’ hours, I’ll be right there with you.
I’m also on a mission to champion indie authors and fellow freelancers. I strongly believe in working together, connecting, and being willing to help each other. Ultimately, I’ll add a shop where you will be able to buy the books of all the authors I work with (and more), but in the meantime, I’ll continue to promote them on social media. Likewise, in the future, I plan to bring other freelancers into the Positive Points fold, so you can find everything you need in one place.
The thing about being an indie is that the business of creating books costs money and sometimes, money isn’t so readily available. I really love what I do, I can’t stress that enough. That’s why, each and every year, I give away a certain number of coaching and editing spots - completely free! I wish I could do it for free all the time but alas, I have bills to pay. So instead, I charge fair prices to those who can afford it, while working with one client at a time for nothing. If you think you might be eligible, contact me.
